Purpose The LGBTQ & Friends Ministry has been an active and integral part of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for over 18 years. Today our Ministry provides opportunities for LGBT and “Questioning” folks (and our straight friends and supporters) to get together to socialize, educate and heal ourselves, and to develop our own unique spiritualties in a nurturing church environment. The LGBTQ & Friends Ministry is always focused on the community and its needs, and tries to provide many opportunities for service. We believe that the Church has neglected, physically-harmed and psychologically-abused many in our community throughout history, and our ministry as LGBTQ Episcopalians is to seek healing, reconciliation and to ask forgiveness of the LGBTQ community in the name of the Christ and of His church.
We provide many educational, spiritual and social events open to the community.
May – Long Beach Pride Events. We have a host of wonderful celebrations starting the weekend of Pride, with a BBQ, Pride Concert, Pride Weekend house party and then culminate with Communion on the Bluff that Sunday morning. We’ve been blessed to have a Bishop celebrate Communion with us over the last two years.
October – National Coming Out Day Celebration. For five years we have hosted the Episcopal Diocese’s celebration of National Coming Out Day. It is our chance to tell the Community that God loves them totally and completely without exception or alterations!
