CHURCH REMODELING UPDATES
While construction projects are never totally predictable, our church remodeling project, thus far, is progressing smoothly and none of our surprises have been huge or expensive. Check here every week for photos of work as it progresses.

Our new carpeted ramp providing easy access to the altar and choir areas is complete. On the lectern side of the church, the hallways to the sacristy and robing rooms reveal their original tile and wood with a central carpet strip. In addition, the clergy vesting room has been transformed with new carpeting. We also learned this week that our new choir chairs are ready to ship and should arrive at the church soon.
As our new altar, choir chairs, benches, credence tables, and kneeling cushions get designed and crafted, we continue to make progress on finishing up bits of work in the church and parish hall. This week, the passages to the left of and behind the chancel have been refinished. To muffle the sound of footfalls, we will put carpet down the center of the halls, but having discovered tile and hardwood under the carpet, we plan to keep most of the original floor exposed.
Our new Altar area awaits its furnishings as staining of woodwork is completed. We still need to attend to the refinishing of the floor in the chancel, the carpeting of the side halls, and the repairing of the pew veneer in the church
While the Altar area woodwork awaits final staining, the shape of our remodeled sacred space is emerging. Furniture and furnishings from altar to credence tables to server benches to choir chairs are being created, and within the next 8 weeks will fill our chancel. Given COVID-related restrictions on indoor gatherings, we are not rushing to complete the work but it is heartening to see progress week by week.
To everyone who contributed to the Capital Campaign, thank you! To all who are currently fulfilling your pledges, we're depending on you. To those who feel motivated to give or give a bit more, we could use your support as we complete the 2020 Capital Campaign's renewal of our public spaces.

The Altar and Furniture & Furnishings Teams continued their work this week advancing Altar design plans, and moving toward final selection of choir chairs, credence tables, and servers' benches. Inside the church, work on the Altar Rail continues.
In addition, F&F members advised the AV Team on placement of cameras in the church for maximum flexibility, minimum intrusiveness, and limited exposure of worshippers on camera. Since enhancing our AV capacity in the church was not part of the original Capital Campaign, we will need to solicit donations to fund the work, which our COVID experience has shown to be mission critical.

This week, work in the church continued with the installation of the altar rail. Our next step will be to reappoint our needlepoint kneelers to fit the new altar kneeling platform and rail. In addition, we started working through our kitchen and parish hall punch lists.
The floor of the new altar area is complete. This week choir chairs, carpet, and floor stain will be decided and ordered. Week by week our Working groups are bringing our church remodeling project closer and closer to completion.
Progress continues as new tile found its way to the center aisle, and wood flooring is almost fully installed in the chancel and new altar area. Chancel furnishings and carpet decisions are in process with consensus coming quickly in some arenas, and more possibilities being required in others. The Altar Design Team reviewed several options, and selected the design that they want to advance to a more detailed design phase.
In addition, even though AV capacity was not part of the original 2020 Campaign and has not yet been funded, we are exploring investing in enhanced AV capacity given all that we are becoming in the midst of COVID-19. We are conscious that, even after we return to worship together in our sacred space, some may want to continue to enjoy digital church for health and safety reasons, and we have a significant new Facebook following whom we do not want to abandon.

We’ve moved from destruction to construction in the Church as we remodel our altar area. The new door to the chancel was created and accessibility ramp poured this week. Also, the new altar platform is beginning to take shape. The Furnishings & Furniture Working Group has met, and is reimagining our needlepoint cushions for our new configuration and discussing seating for the choir and all worship participants. The Altar Team will meet the end of this week or next week to review design possibilities.

CONSTRUCTION KICKS OFF
Work has begun in the Church as we remodel our Chancel to meet the worship needs and desires of the people of St. Luke’s for today and generations to come. Thus far, the workers mostly seem to be producing great clouds of dust within the well protected work area. We’ll provide illustrated updates as the work progresses.
CHURCH REMODELING BEGINS
As people moved through the church for reflection and prayer, as well as for cleaning and clearing the space for construction, we honored our sacred space. Many thanks to our Altar Guild, our Design Team, our staff, and all who came to pray. Construction has now begun and will continue through the summer. As work progresses, updates and photos will be provided. In addition, Vestry Working Groups focusing on Furniture and Furnishings, Altar Design, and Audio-Visual capacity are starting their work.
