SPIRITUAL EXPLORATION PROGRAM
Beginning in September, 2008
St. Luke's will once again be the site of the Spirtual Exploration Program, sponsored by Stillpoint.  This is a 10 month program that supports people exploring their personal spiritual lives and relationship with God.  There are 10 four hour sessions that meet once a month.  Tuition is $375.  Registration is now open and application due May 15.  Forms can be downloaded at www.stillpoint.org.  Flyers are also available in the parish hall.
 
WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY GROUP
Friday, May 2 , 2008   6:30 PM
Once again it is movie night for the Women's Spirituality Group.  We will be watching "Shirley Valentine" at Grace Sheldon"s house. Bring something light to eat and if directions are needed, call Grace or Jill Cassidy. All women are welcome.
 
COMMUNITY GARDEN: A Time to Grow

4th ANNUAL GAY, LESBIAN & FRIENDS BBQ

FAREWELL SUNDAY for Rev. Gary
Sunday, May 4, 2008
Rev. Gary Commins will begin a sabbatical during May, June,and July and May 4 will be his last Sunday at St. Luke's.  In his absence, Rev. Dean Farrar will the priest-in-charge and Rev. Beryl Nyre-Thomas will be the assisting priest. Come to this Farewell Sunday and Cinco de Mayo luncheon after the 10 o'clock service.
 
NEWCOMER'S CLASS
Sundays, May 4 and May 11, 2008   after the 10 o'clock service
A class will be held for those interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church and St. Luke's on May 4 and May 11.
 
PHOTO SUNDAY

Every first Sunday of the month, photos will be taken of parishioners not to be found on the Parish Hall wall. If you haven't yet been photographed, please make it a point to meet at the table outside the Parish Hall after the 10 service on May 4.

LONG BEACH PRIDE FESTIVAL EVENTS
Saturday and Sunday , May 17 and May 18, 2008

Saturday May 17:  Beginning at 10 AM on Saturday and on Sunday until 10 PM there 

                          will be continuing events, booths and festivities.

Sunday May 18: 25th Annual Gay Pride Eucharist and Parade

                       Eucharist will be held on the bluff on Ocean Blvd at 8:30 AM.  Look

                       for the Episcopal flags somewhere between Redondo and Temple.

                       Coffee Hour follows at the Albert' s and then participants will                        leave for the parade at 10:30 AM.

                         

 
ST.LUKE'S PANTRY/US POSTAL CARRIER FOOD INGATHERING

Volunteers are needed to help collect food donated to this US Postal Carrier's Ingathering. Some or all of the food will benefit our own Parish Pantry. To volunteer call Gail Mutke at the parish office 562 436-4047.
 
TAIZE PRAYER

Come spend a quiet hour of prayer, readings, chanted music and meditation in the lovely candlelit sanctuary of St. Luke's.This month we will be celebrating Pentecost and the power of the Holy Spirit with the addition of soft percussive instruments added to the music of service.
 
MANNA MEALS
Saturday, May 24 , 2008   9AM - 12:30 PM
St. Luke's prepares and serves a hot meal for the homeless and needy. Look for the sign-up table in the patio or hall on Sundays or call the church office to volunteer. 562-436-4047.  People are needed to help in the kitchen, at the serving tables and casseroles are needed to serve our guests.Any time you can give is helpful, and it is a good way to get to know other St. Luke's people.
 
EVENSONG/CONCERT
Sunday, May 25 , 2008   4 and 5 PM

4 PM EVENSONG: In this final Evensong of the year, St. Luke's Choir will sing the 

                          music of Victorian composers.

5 PM CONCERT:  Stay after the concert for an interview with Queen Victoria in a

                         simulated press conference, moderated by Clare Boothe Luce.
