2008 London Brass Rubbing Centre Oct. 8 to Nov. 22
The Age-old art of brass rubbing awaits your touch at The London Brass Rubbing Centre in-residence in the Great Hall of Cassidy Castle at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Long Beach.
From October 8 to November 22 visitors will have a unique opportunity to rub brasses with a rich history. On display will be 70 facsimile brass markers depicting medieval life in exquisite detail.
No special talent is required to make waxed reproductions from the brasses yet results can be stunning. In about one hour it is easy to make a beautifully personalized gift or wall hanging to be treasured forever. Cost for materials start as low as $4.50; mats and ready made rubbings are also available for sale at the Centre.
Admission to the exhibit is free. No reservations are needed for individuals during public hours. However, reservations are required for special programs planned for groups.
GROUPS and SCHOOLS
Special rates and times are available for groups of ten or more. Sessions of approximately 1½ hours include instruction and materials. Knowledgeable docents will share a captivating history of brasses.
ENGLISH TEAS
The Centre offers traditional English teas, complete with sweets and savories to accompany your group reservations. This charming old world custom hosted by costumed docents suggests an interesting way to entertain history in an unusual and memorable setting.
Plan to bring your club meeting, birthday party, office staff, or family to the Brass Rubbing Centre for an experience everyone will enjoy.
